Soderling wins Paris Masters

PARIS, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Robin Soderling picked up his second title of 2010 with a straight-set win Sunday over Gael Monfils at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris.

Soderling, the tournament's No. 4 seed, improved to 3-0 in his career versus Monfils with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) victory. It was his sixth career ATP title and second this year. He won in February at an event in the Netherlands.

Soderling won nearly two-thirds of the points in the first set, converting two of his three break-point chances.

Neither player faced a break point in the second set but Soderling grabbed the advantage by winning the first point in the tie-breaker off Monfils' serve. He was up 3-1 when he took another point off Monfils serve and got to match point on his own serve. He capped the match by going to the net and hitting a volley for a winner.

Soderling collected $616,000 for the victory, moving past $3 million for the year and nearly $8.5 million over his career. Monfils, 1-3 in finals in 2010, won $291,000 as the Paris Masters runner-up.

The Paris Masters is the next-to-last event on the ATP 2010 calendar. The Barclay ATP World Tour Finals begins next Sunday in London.
