COL FB: Northwestern 21, Iowa 17

EVANSTON, Ill., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Demetrius Fields' first touchdown catch of the season was a big one that carried Northwestern to a 21-17 upset of No. 13 Iowa Saturday.

Dan Persa hit Fields at the goal line with 1:22 to play to grab the lead, and the Northwestern (7-3, 3-3 Big Ten) defense kept Iowa (7-3, 4-2) out of the end zone on their final drive.

The loss was a setback for the Hawkeyes' hopes of winning the Big Ten title.

Persa was 32-of-43 for 318 yards and ran in a touchdown from 2 yards out in the first quarter to give the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead.

Iowa was up 17-7 at the start of the fourth quarter, but Persa threw 6 yards to Jeremy Ebert to make it 17-14 with 6:21 to play to cut the lead and engineered the winning drive on the Wildcats' next possession.

Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi was 23-of-42 for 270 yards and two touchdowns. Adam Robinson ran for 108 yards and Derrell Johnson-Koulianos had five catches for 104 yards and a touchdown.
