SAO PAULO, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Sebastian Vettel's dominating victory in Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix kept the German's Formula One world championship hopes alive.
Vettel passed pole sitter Nico Hulkenberg on the first lap and never looked back, letting go of the lead only when he pitted while winning his fourth race of the season and the eighth of his F1 career.
Red Bull's Vettel drew to within 14 points of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who finished third and remained the points leader. Alonso holds an 8-point lead over Vettel's Red Bull teammate Mark Webber.
Red Bull's 1-2 finish in Brazil assured that it would clinch the 2010 F1 constructors' championship.
Lewis Hamilton finished fourth. He trails by Alonso by 24 points and all four drivers will face off for the F1 championship in next weekend's season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Defending champion Jenson Button of McLaren was eliminated from the chase with a fifth-place finish Sunday, which came after he escaped an attempted armed mugging as he left the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo Saturday night.
