NHL: Carolina 3, Florida 2

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Eric Staal collected a pair of goals, including one on a 5-on-3 power play, and the Carolina Hurricanes edged Florida 3-2 Saturday.

Staal connected on the two-man advantage just under 8t minutes into the second period to break a scoreless tie and Carolina was never headed.

Staal added an unassisted marker midway through the final frame, giving him 199 career goals, the fourth-most in Carolina's franchise history.

Jeff Skinner contributed a goal and an assist and Cam Ward stopped 18 shots as the Hurricanes gained a split in their home-and-home set with Florida.

The Panthers lost for the fourth time in six games. Darcy Hordichuk and Michael Frolik scored for Florida.
