NBA: Golden State 115, Memphis 109

OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- A 38-point effort by Monta Ellis Wednesday helped the Golden State Warriors fight off a Memphis comeback en route to a 115-109 win over the Grizzlies.

The Warriors led by as many as 16 points in the third period but Memphis climbed within four early in the fourth and stayed in striking range the rest of the way.

A 3-pointer by Rudy Gay with 55 seconds reduced the Memphis deficit to six but Ellis made five free throws the rest of the way to finish off the Grizzlies.

Ellis hit 12-of-25 from the field and 14-of-19 from the foul line. Dorell Wright added 24 for the Warriors, who have won three of their first four games this season.

Gay led Memphis with 35 points and O.J. Mayo had 25. The Grizzlies shot 50 percent from the field but sent Golden State to the line 34 times and gave up 12 3-pointers.
