DES MOINES, Iowa, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Film stars Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore were involved in NCAA recruiting violations by the University of Iowa, school officials have admitted.

University authorities acknowledge they allowed two high school recruits to meet Kutcher, Moore and several former Hawkeye basketball players last month, The Des Moines Register reported Sunday.

NCAA rules say potential recruits are prohibited from contact with anyone representing a school's athletic interests.

Kutcher, along with former Hawkeye players Reggie Evans and Dean Oliver, are considered representatives of Hawkeye athletic interests, the school told the NCAA.

In an Oct. 1 letter to the NCAA, school officials contend the violations should be considered inadvertent contact.

"The university is remorseful that these violations occurred," Fred Mims, associate athletic director, wrote.

"These violations were inadvertent and steps have been taken to ensure it will not recur."
