NEW YORK, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Erik Cole's power-play goal with 3:59 left in the third period Friday snapped a tie and brought Carolina a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers.
The Hurricanes never trailed, but New York twice rallied into a tie before losing their second straight. Carolina had dropped four of its previous six games.
Jeff Skinner scored twice for Carolina, giving the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead 56 seconds into the second period and then putting a backhander past Henrik Lundqvist with 5:41 left in the stanza for a 3-2 advantage.
Brandon Dubinsky lifted New York into a 3-3 tie with 4:17 to go in the second. Cole's game-winning goal came with Ruslan Fedotenko in the penalty box for boarding.
Cam Ward got the win by making 40 saves. Lundqvist gave up four goals on 38 shots.
