Devan Dubnyk, in his second NHL season, made his first start of the year in goal for Edmonton and shut out the Blue Jackets over the final two periods of regulation.

Nash and Filatov, however, beat Dubny in the first two rounds of the shootout while Columbus could not get the puck past Steve Mason. Dubnyk made 39 saves overall and Mason stopped 25 shots.

Samuel Pahlsson and Kyle Wilson scored in the first period for Columbus and Shawn Horcoff tallied on the power play for the Oilers.

The only goal over the final two periods came on Taylor Hall's tip-in with 10:03 left in the third that forged a 2-2 tie.
