NBA: New Jersey 101, Detroit 98

NEWARK, N.J., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Jordan Farmar gave New Jersey a three-point lead with 13 seconds left Wednesday and the Nets survived to down Detroit 101-98.

The Pistons let an eight-point lead get away in the third period, then regained a seven-point cushion early in the fourth quarter before the Nets staged another comeback.

Detroit still led by seven with 1:44 to play, but New Jersey took the lead for good on an Anthony Morrow 3-pointer with 23 seconds left.

Farmar's two free throws accounted for the final score, after which Charlie Villanueva missed a 3-point attempt with 3 seconds remaining.

Terrence Williams grabbed the rebound for New Jersey and was immediately fouled, but he missed both free throws, giving Detroit another chance to tie it. Rodney Stuckey, however, missed another 3-point chance as time expired.

Brook Lopez scored 25 points for the Nets, who opened last season with 18 consecutive losses en route to a 12-70 campaign.

Stuckey, Tayshaun Prince and Villanueva all had 14 for Detroit.
