Lee's wife: Yankees fans spit, threw beer

NEW YORK, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- The wife of Texas Rangers pitcher Cliff Lee says New York Yankees fans threw beer and spit on her during the American League Championship Series.

Kristen Lee told Tuesday's USA Today she was the subject of obscenities, ugly taunts, thrown beer and spitting from the section above her as her husband -- a free agent-to-be -- shut down the Yankees.

Cliff Lee will likely consider a lucrative offer from New York during the off-season after competing in the World Series with the Rangers.

"The fans did not do good things in my heart," Kristen Lee told the newspaper. "When people are staring at you, and saying horrible things, it's hard not to take it personal."

The New York Daily News cited an unnamed source as saying the Yankees were looking into reports of inappropriate fan behavior during Games 3, 4 and 5 of the ALCS at Yankee Stadium Oct. 18-20.

Lee's agent, Darek Braunecker, told ESPNNewYork.com Kristen Lee's experience won't affect her husband's decision about where to pitch next season.

"The story is not an issue to us," he said. "Her experience in New York is certainly a non-issue. She enjoys New York as much as anyone enjoys New York."
