MLS: Kansas City 4, San Jose 1

KANSAS CITY, Kan., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Birahim Diop collected a hat trick Saturday, powering Kansas City to a 4-1 season-ending win over San Jose.

Diop exploded for three tallies after getting just two goals previously this year. His first marker came 9 minutes before halftime, and he added two more goals in the second half for the Wizards (11-13-6).

Kansas City finished the season in third place in the Eastern Conference, out of the MLS playoffs.

Playoff-bound San Jose (13-10-7), meanwhile, got its goal from Chris Wondolowski, who collected his MLS-leading 18th tally of the season.

The Earthquakes (13-10-7) finished sixth in the Western Conference. They will switch into the East for the playoffs and face Red Bull New York in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
