NHL: N.Y. Islanders 3, Tampa Bay 2 (OT)

TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Matt Moulson scored an overtime goal that survived a replay review Thursday and gave the New York Islanders a 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay.

Moulson's goal came 1:56 into overtime, but play continued until 1:32 remained in the extra period.

That is when the video review began and it took 10 minutes to determine the goal would count. The Islanders won their third straight

Moulson was in the midst of a large group of players when he lofted his shot toward goaltender Dan Ellis. The puck deflected off a stick and Ellis managed to backhand it away from the net as it was crossing the goal line.

Officials finally ruled that all the puck barely made it past the line, thus handing Tampa Bay its second loss of the season.

Until Moulson's unusual goal, there had been no scoring since New York's P.A. Parenteau had tallied on the power play 10 minutes into the second period.

Rick DiPietro got the win with 28 saves. Ellis stopped 22 shots.
