NHL: Columbus 3, Anaheim 1

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Rick Nash scored twice Wednesday, with his empty-net goal with 28 seconds remaining wrapping up a 3-1 Columbus victory over Anaheim.

Both teams were trying to win back-to-back games for the first time this season and the Blue Jackets did so thanks, in large part, to a 31-save effort by Steve Mason.

Mason had given up an average of 3.35 goals a game in his previous three appearances.

Derek MacKenzie and Nash scored 71 seconds apart early in the second period to give Columbus a 2-0 lead and Miller protected that advantage until Teemu Selanne produced his third goal of the season in the opening minute of the third.

Miller fought off the Ducks the rest of the way and Nash clinched it after Anaheim had pulled goalie Jonas Hiller, who finished with 19 saves.

After losing their first three games of the season, during which they were outscored 13-2, the Ducks managed at least a point in their next three contests. They were coming off a home victory on Sunday against Phoenix.
