CHICAGO, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Mike Quade, who took over as manager of the Chicago Cubs when Lou Piniella retired in August, has been given a two-year contract to remain the team's manager.

Quade, 53, helped the Cubs to a 24-13 record over the final quarter of the 2010 season. He was promoted from third base coach to interim manager when Piniella, who'd already said he was leaving the team after the season, stepped down in late August.

The Cubs on Tuesday said Quade would return in 2011 without the "interim" tag. He is the team's 51st manager.

Quade has spent eight seasons in the Cubs' organization, serving as third base coach for the last four seasons. He also was manager of Chicago's Triple-A affiliate in Iowa, posting a 289-279 record and two first-place finishes in more than four seasons.

He has a total of 17 years experience as a minor league manager, winning minor league manager year of the year awards at Double-A Harrisburg in 1991 and Triple-A Ottawa in 1993.
