NHL: Boston 4, New Jersey 1

NEWARK, N.J., Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Jordan Caron's tally ignited a four-goal outburst in the second period Saturday in the Boston Bruins' 4-1 victory over New Jersey.

Caron's goal off a Johnny Boychuk assist tied the score 1-1 and then the Bruins exploded for three more goals in a 7-minute-plus span to win in their first game since returning from a season-opening trip to Prague, Czech Republic.

Shawn Thornton, Milan Lucic and Michael Ryder got the other middle-period markers. Tim Thomas made 31 saves on 32 shots for Boston.

Martin Brodeur continued his shaky play to start the season, allowing four goals on 35 shots. So far this year, he has let in 18 goals in six games as the Devils have dropped five of six.

Dainius Zubrus got New Jersey's only score.
