NHL: Montreal 2, Buffalo 1

BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Carey Price took a shutout into the third period and made 22 saves Friday, carrying the Montreal Canadiens to a 2-1 victory over Buffalo.

The contest came on the 40th anniversary of Buffalo's inaugural home game in the NHL. Montreal won in Buffalo for just the second time in 11 regular-season games.

Alexandre Picard and Josh Gorges scored in the second period to put Montreal in control heading into the third, but Derek Roy made it a one-goal game with his fifth tally of the season, coming on a wrist shot 3:26 into the frame.

Price then took over to win his second game of the season.

Ryan Miller stopped 28-of-30 shots in Buffalo's fourth consecutive loss after opening the campaign with a win over Ottawa.

The first home game in Buffalo franchise history was played Oct. 15, 1970. Montreal defeated Buffalo in that one 3-0.
