LOS ANGELES, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Ryan Smyth scored two third-period goals Tuesday, rallying the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-1 decision over Atlanta.

Trailing 1-0 entering the final frame, Los Angeles erupted for three goals, ignited by Smyth's first tally 3:53 into the period, a backhander on assists from Justin Williams and Anze Kopitar.

The veteran left-winger then assisted on Jarret Stoll's go-ahead score less than 3 minutes later and added a empty-netter to seal the victory in Los Angeles' home opener.

Kings goalie Jonathan Quick stopped 31-of-32 Atlanta shots.

Chris Thorburn scored an unassisted first-period goal for the Thrashers' only tally and Chris Mason turned aside 32-of-34 shots in the setback.
