Vinci advances in Austria on upset win

LINZ, Austria, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Roberta Vinci used six service breaks in a taking a first-round upset victory at the Generali Ladies Linz tennis tournament in Austria.

Vinci swept out No. 3-seeded Alona Bondarenko 6-2, 6-2. She lost her own serve twice but broke Bondarenko's serve the first two times Bondarenko served in each set. Vinci ended up winning 60 percent of the points when receiving.

Qualifier Eleni Daniilidou also advanced via an upset, taking out fourth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova 6-2, 6-4. She won nearly as many points (30-32) on Cibulkova's serve as Cibulkova managed.

Ninth-seeded Sara Errani dropped her serve four times but piled up eight breaks in eight games that Sesil Karatantcheva served in a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Renata Voracova, another qualifier, routed Alize Cornet 6-1, 6-3 in 62 minutes; while Julia Goerges slipped by Polona Hercog 6-4, 4-6, 6-4; and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova topped Anastasija Sevastova 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-4.

Also, Sybille Bammer beat Anna Chakvetadze 7-5, 6-0; Patty Schnyder defeated Gisela Dulko 6-2, 6-3; and Carla Suarez Navarro advanced over Arantxa Parra Santonja 6-3, 6-3.
