SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Quintin Mikell recovered a fumble and returned it 52 yards for a score Sunday in the Philadelphia Eagles' 27-24 victory over San Francisco.

Mikell's touchdown off quarterback Alex Smith's miscue early in the final period gave the Eagles a 14-point lead and boosted Philadelphia (3-2) to the win.

Kevin Kolb, filling in for the injured Michael Vick, completed 21-of-31 passes, gaining 253 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. He was sacked four times.

Jeremy Maclin hauled down six passes for 95 yards and LeSean McCoy rushed for 92 yards and a TD on 18 carries for the victors.

San Francisco lost a fifth straight game to start a season for the first time in 31 years.

Smith went 25-of-39 passing for 309 yards with three touchdowns but was picked off twice.

Michael Crabtree grabbed nine passes for 105 yards and a score, and Vernon Davis added five receptions for 104 yards and a TD in the 49ers' loss.
