DENVER, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Paul Stastny scored 3:40 into overtime Thursday to give the Colorado Avalanche a 4-3 victory over Chicago.
The defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks rallied from a 3-1 deficit to tie it midway through the third period on a power-play goal from Patrick Sharp. Stastny, however, put a slapshot past Marty Turco for the game-winner.
Turco made his Chicago debut after having spent the previous nine seasons with Dallas. Turco's 22 wins last year were his fewest since the 2001-02 season.
Craig Anderson got the victory, giving up only one goal over the first 38 minutes. He made 35 saves.
The Blackhawks revamped their roster after winning the championship, moves brought about by salary cap issues. Dustin Byfuglien, Brent Sopel, Andrew Ladd, Kris Versteeg and John Madden are no longer with the team.
Also gone is goaltender Antti Niemi, who was the winner in all of Chicago's playoff victories last season. Turco was signed to a one-year deal as his replacement.
