GREEN BAY, Wis., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Green Bay Packers rookie starting safety Morgan Burnett has been lost for the season with a knee injury, Coach Mike McCarthy said Monday.

Burnett suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his knee in Sunday's 28-26 win over Detroit.

Burnett, 21,a third-round pick out of Georgia Tech in this year's draft, had 14 tackles and an interception in four starts this season.

Veteran safety Derrick Martin filled in for Burnett Sunday and could wind up being his replacement since Charlie Peprah, who was listed as Burnett's backup, has injury problems of his own.
