MLB: Pittsburgh 5, Florida 1

MIAMI, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Chris Snyder put Pittsburgh in front with a two-run homer in the fifth Friday and the Pirates went on to down Florida 5-1.

Pittsburgh avoided what would have been its 104th loss, which would have equaled the third-largest single-season total in the history of the franchise.

Brandon Moss and Cedeno added RBI singles in the sixth.

Pittsburgh starter Daniel McCutchen lasted only four innings and the win went to Chan Ho Park (2-2), who retired all nine men he faced.

Dan Uggla produced the only Florida run with a first-inning single. All the Pittsburgh runs were allowed by Adalberto Mendez (1-3), who worked 5 1/3 innings.

Florida has lost five out of six.
