MLB: N.Y. Mets 2, Washington 1 (10 inn.)

NEW YORK, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Josh Thole hit a one-out homer in the 10th inning Friday, giving the New York Mets a 2-1 victory over Washington.

Tyler Clippard (11-7) came on in the 10th as the sixth pitcher for the Nationals and struck out Mike Hessman to open the inning. Thole then worked a 3-1 count before hitting his third homer of the season.

New York starter Pat Misch allowed only three hits and struck out a career-best 10 in eight innings but left with the game deadlocked at 1-1.

Hisanori Takahashi (10-6) worked the ninth and 10th innings to get the win. He did not give up a hit while striking out four.

The game's other two runs also came on homers. Ike Davis hit one for the Mets in the fourth and Mike Morse tied it in the seventh.
