KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- No. 1-seed Robin Soderling dropped just one game Thursday in grabbing a quarterfinal slot at the Malaysian Open tennis tournament.

Soderling rolled over Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-0, 6-1 in 63 minutes. He set the stage for the match by winning 75 percent of the points in the first set. He did face two break-point situations in the second set but saved both.

Eighth-seeded Andrey Golubev earned the quarterfinal spot opposite Soderling with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win over Kevin Anderson. Golubev won only six more points (71-65) in the match but had a pair of first-set breaks to take the advantage.

No. 3-seeded Tomas Berdych and fifth-seeded David Ferrer each posted straight-set wins in their second-round matches and will meet in Friday's quarters.

Berdych stopped Denis Istomin 6-4, 6-3 on the strength of five service breaks -- an unusually high number versus Istomin. Ferrer needed less than an hour to dispatch Yuki Bhambri 6-2, 6-2. Ferrer dropped his serve twice but lost only four points over his other six service games.

Fourth-seeded Mikhail Youzhny will go against No. 6 Marcos Baghdatis in another of Friday's quarterfinals while qualifiers Milos Raonic and Igor Andreev make up the fourth pairing.
