MLB: Chicago Cubs 1, San Diego 0

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Carlos Zambrano and two relievers combined for a four-hit shutout Monday and the Chicago Cubs blanked San Diego 1-0.

Zambrano (10-6) raised his record to 7-0 in 10 starts since returning to the Cubs rotation after serving time on the restricted list for anger management issues.

The volatile righty allowed three hits, walked four and struck five over seven shutout innings. Sean Marshall pitched a scoreless eighth and Carlos Marmol picked up his 35th save despite loading the bases in the ninth.

Blake DeWitt drove in the game's only run with seventh-inning RBI single.

Tim Stauffer (5-5) took the hard-luck loss for the Padres, who fell a full game behind first-place San Francisco in the National League West and half-game behind Atlanta in the NL wild-card race.

Stauffer yielded only one run on five hits over seven frames.
