SEATTLE, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Leon Washington returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown with 6:24 left Sunday, boosting the Seattle Seahawks to a 27-20 win over San Diego.

Washington's electrifying play was his second kickoff-return touchdown of the game. He also scored on a club-record 101-yard return in the third quarter for the Seahawks (2-1).

Seattle's defense forced five turnovers, with two coming on interceptions by rookie Earl Thomas. One of his pick-offs came inside the Seattle 10-yard line during the final few seconds of the game as Philip Rivers attempted a last-ditch San Diego comeback try.

Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck went 19-of-32 passing for 220 yards with a TD and an interception.

Rivers, meanwhile, tossed for a career-high 455 yards, ending the day 29-of-53 passing with two TDs and the two interceptions.

Antonio Gates collected seven passes for for 109 yards and a TD for the Chargers (1-2).
