Kudryavtseva wins first WTA title

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Alla Kudryavtseva topped Elena Vesnina in straight sets Saturday in winning the championship of the WTA's Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan.

Kudryavtseva defeated Vesnina 6-4, 6-4 in a tight match to collect her first WTA championship and a first-place check for $37,000. Vesnina, who took home $19,000 for a second-place finish, fell to 0-2 in WTA finals.

Kudryavtseva dropped serve once, faced only one other break-point situation and won two-thirds of the points on serve. She had three service breaks against Vesnina.

Kudryavtseva made a break in the seventh game of the first set stand up and the players traded breaks early in the second set before another seventh-game break gave the edge to Kudryavtseva.
