LOS ANGELES, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- The estranged wife of Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt repeated Monday that she never read an agreement giving him sole ownership of the team.

Jamie McCourt has long claimed she never saw the 2004 marital property agreement in which Frank McCourt was named as sole owner of the Dodgers. She repeated the assertion Monday during testimony at their divorce trial in Los Angeles Superior Court, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Jamie McCourt faced hostile questioning from her husband's attorney, Steve Susman, who challenged her contention she's a 50-50 owner of the team despite the agreement, the newspaper said.

Susman noted McCourt's years of practicing law and said that "choosing not to read something is not a legal defense to enforcement of the contract."

The Times said Jamie McCourt repeated her assertion she didn't read the agreement because she trusted her attorney, but Susman countered that was unlikely because she knew the Dodgers were a risky investment and the couple had a limited amount of time to turn the team's financial fortunes around.

"The loans were coming due in two years," he said. "If you didn't succeed in turning it around, whoever signed the guarantees and promissory notes would have been hung out to dry."
