Gailey elevated Fitzpatrick over Trent Edwards, who started the first two Buffalo games this season -- both of which were losses. The Bills have scored a total of 17 points in the games.
Fitzpatrick, a seventh-round draft pick out of Harvard by St. Louis in 2005, started eight games last season in place of Edwards when Edwards had a concussion. Over 10 games in 2009, Fitzpatrick completed 127-of-227 passes for 1,422 yards with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
He previously played for the Rams for two seasons and Cincinnati in 2007 and 2008. Fitzpatrick started 12 games for the Bengals in 2008 again filling in for an injured starter.
