MIAMI, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Wellington Castillo belted a two-run homer Sunday, pacing the Chicago Cubs to a 13-3 rout of the Florida Marlins and a three-game sweep.
Jeff Baker had a 4-for-5 day, including a pair of doubles and two RBI for the Cubs, who also got two RBI each from Bobby Scales and Brad Snyder.
The game was marred by a bizarre incident in which outfielder Tyler Colvin was struck in the chest by a broken bat. Castillo splintered his bat on a second-inning double, and a piece of it embedded in Colvin's left side while he was on third base.
Colvin was taken by ambulance to a Miami hospital where he was pronounced in stable condition.
Jeff Samardzija (2-1) surrendered three runs on three hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out four.
Marlins starter Andrew Miller (1-3) was rocked for five runs on three hits and four walks in only 1 1/3 innings.
Dan Uggla connected for a two-run homer and Hector Luna added a solo shot for Florida.
