A shard of the bat entered Colvin's left side below the collarbone, MLB.com reported. He was transported to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

A Cubs team spokesman told the Web site Colvin suffered minimal external bleeding but that the depth of the wound wasn't immediately apparent.
