MLS: Real Salt Lake 1, Chicago 0

SANDY, Utah, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Alvaro Saborio scored on a penalty kick in first-half stoppage time Saturday, propelling Real Salt Lake to a 1-0 win over Chicago.

Real's victory at Rio Tinto Stadium extended the team's unbeaten streak to 23 games, a Major League Soccer record, breaking the mark set by Columbus in 2008-09. RSL moved into a tie with Los Angeles, which played D.C. United Saturday night, for most points in the league.

Saborio drilled the penalty shot into the left side past diving Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson for his ninth goal of the season. The free shot followed a second yellow card to Chicago's Wilman Conde.

RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando didn't have to make a save to get his 12th shutout this season.

Real improved to 13-4-8 while Chicago slid to 6-9-8.
