CHICAGO, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Scott Sizemore's pinch-hit, three-run homer in the eighth inning Saturday lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 6-3 win over the Chicago White Sox.
With the game tied 3-3, Alex Avila and Austin Jackson got two-out singles off Sergio Santos (2-1). Chris Sale came in to relieve and Sizemore, hitting for Will Rhymes, blasted a pitch deep into the left field stands.
Justin Verlander (17-8) was sharp, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out eight to notch his third complete game of the season, allowing the Tigers to clinch their three-game series with the White Sox.
Mark Teahen had a pair of hits and drove in a run for Chicago, which lost for a season-high fifth straight time.
The setback put the Chisox 10 games behind Minnesota in the American League Central and reduced the Twins' magic number to clinch the division to five.
