KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Shin-Soo Choo hit three homers in a game for the first time Friday and equaled a career high with seven RBI, helping Cleveland crush Kansas City 11-4.
Choo broke a scoreless tie with a two-run blast in the fourth, hit a grand slam in the sixth to give the Indians a 9-0 lead and added a solo shot in the eighth. He has 19 home runs for the season.
Cleveland pounded out 15 hits in a battle of teams trying to avoid last place in the American League Central. The Indians moved a half game ahead of Kansas City by winning their second straight and their third in four outings.
Carlos Carrasco (1-0) earned the first win of his career with a six-inning performance. He allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out six.
Kyle Davies (8-10) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on eight hits in five-plus frames.
The teams have split their 12 meetings this year.
