The Earthquakes are trying to return to the playoffs for the first time since rejoining the league in 2008. San Jose won the MLS title in both 2001 and 2003 before folding following the 2005 season.

That franchise eventually relocated in Houston.

Wondolowski scored his ninth goal of the season, putting a shot past Brad Knighton off the first assist of the year from Arturo Alvarez.

Philadelphia (6-12-6) remained stuck on 24 points, tied for sixth place in the Eastern Conference with New England.

San Jose has won four and tied one in its last six games.
