MLB: Chicago Cubs 7, St. Louis 2

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Randy Wells drove in two runs and allowed only one as he pitched the Chicago Cubs to a 7-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday.

Wells (7-13) gave up a run on five hits and struck out five in eight innings and knocked in two runs with a pair of RBI singles.

The win was Chicago's fourth in its last five starts. The Cardinals have lost six of eight and remained mired seven games out of first place in the National League Central.

Xavier Nady had three RBI and Darwin Barney drove in one and collected three hits. The Cubs outhit the Cards 15-6 and ran up a 6-0 lead before St. Louis got on the board in the fourth inning.

Matt Holliday had an RBI double for St. Louis in the fourth and Colby Rasmus added a solo home run in the ninth off Cubs reliever James Russell.

Adam Wainwright (18-11) suffered the loss. He struck out eight over eight innings but was tagged for five run on a dozen hits.
