Arvidsson through to 2nd round in Quebec

QUEBEC CITY, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Eighth-seeded Sofia Arvidsson enjoyed an easy first-round victory Monday at the Bell Challenge women's tennis tournament in Quebec City, Quebec.

Arvidsson, who advanced to the finals of this event in 2005, breezed past Dutchwoman Michaella Krajicek 6-2, 6-0 indoors at the PEPS Laval University Campus.

Also claiming first-round wins were No. 6 seed Julia Goerges, who handled Andrea Hlavackova 6-3, 6-2; Anna Tatishvili, who defeated Alicia Molik 3-6, 6-2, 6-2; and Johanna Larsson, who got past Shenay Perry, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

Christina McHale took a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win over Lilia Osterloh and, in a battle of Canadians, Rebecca Marino prevailed over Heidi El Tabakh 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-3).
