NFL: Chicago 19, Detroit 14

CHICAGO, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Jay Cutler's 28-yard scoring strike to Matt Forte with 1:32 left in the game Sunday gave the Chicago Bears a 19-14 win over Detroit.

Following the touchdown, the Bears (1-0) couldn't convert a 2-point conversion try and the Lions got the ball back deep in their own territory.

Back-up Detroit signal-caller Shaun Hill marched the Lions to the Bears' 25-yard-line on the ensuing drive, and with time running out found Calvin Johnson, who made a soaring catch over a Chicago defender in the end zone for what seemed to be a go-ahead score.

But the play was ruled incomplete in a controversial call. The referee said Johnson lost control of the ball, and his ruling was upheld upon video review.

The Lions (0-1) misfired on two more passes after the adverse call and ended up dropping their season opener.
