CINCINNATI, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Andrew McCutchen stroked a three-run double in the ninth inning Sunday and the Pittsburgh Pirates stunned Cincinnati 3-1.
The National League Central-leading Reds held a 1-0 lead with two outs in the top the ninth and had a chance to sweep a three-game set against the Pirates but couldn't put the game away.
With closer Francisco Cordero (6-5) on the mound, the Pirates' first two batters reached base. One out later, Garrett Jones lined a pinch-hit single to center to load the bases, and after Jose Tabata grounded into a force-out, McCutchen doubled into the left corner to clear the bases.
Joel Hanrahan made the lead hold up, gaining his fifth save in the bottom of the ninth despite loading the bases with two outs.
Chan Ho Park (1-1) got the victory with a scoreless eighth inning.
