MLB: San Diego 4, Los Angeles Dodgers 0

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Cory Luebke, making his second major league start, took part in a five-pitcher shutout Wednesday in the San Diego Padres' 4-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Luebke (1-1) struck out seven over six innings and gave up only a one-out double in the second by Matt Kemp and a one-out infield single by Rafael Furcal in the fourth.

The four relievers who followed him combined to give up a lone hit and preserved San Diego's third straight win. The winning streak follows nine consecutive losses that almost cost the Padres their division lead.

Their win Wednesday allowed them to increase their advantage over San Francisco in the National League West to two games.

Luis Durango scored on a base hit by Miguel Tejada in the third and then singled in two runs during San Diego's three-run sixth.

All the San Diego runs came against Chad Billingsley (11-9), who gave up six hits and five walks in 5 1/3 innings in the Dodgers' fifth straight loss.
