MLB: Arizona 3, San Francisco 1

PHOENIX, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Daniel Hudson allowed only a first-inning homer in a seven-inning effort Wednesday and the Arizona Diamondbacks cooled off San Francisco 3-1.

The Giants had a four-game winning streak snapped and the Diamondbacks won for the first time in five tries.

Hudson (6-2) was touched for a home run by Freddy Sanchez in the opening inning, and then blanked the Giants for the rest of a 101-pitch stint that included five hits and three strikeouts.

Esmerling Vasquez worked around a hit in the eighth and Juan Gutierrez did the same in the ninth for his eighth save.

Miguel Montero doubled home the tying run in the second inning and Kelly Johnson singled in Stephen Drew to put Arizona in front in the third. Drew had an RBI single in the seventh to give the Diamondbacks some insurance.

Barry Zito (8-12) was charged with the loss despite giving up just two runs and striking out seven over six innings.
