MLB: Baltimore 6, New York Yankees 2

NEW YORK, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Adam Jones drove in a pair of first-inning runs Tuesday and the Baltimore Orioles went on to defeat the New York Yankees 6-2.

Ty Wigginton gave the O's a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and Jones followed by driving in Felix Pie and Nick Markakis with a single to left, helping Baltimore clinch its three-game series with New York.

Nolan Reimold smacked a two-run homer to back starter Jake Arrieta (5-6), who limited the Yanks to two runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 frames.

The Orioles improved to 21-13 since former Yankees Manager Buck Showalter took the helm last month.

CC Sabathia (19-6) failed in his bid win a 20th game, instead absorbing his first home loss of the year. The Yankees ace was touched for six runs (five earned) on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings.

New York saw its American League East lead over second-place Tampa Bay dwindle to 1 1/2 games with the setback.
