COL FB: Auburn 52, Arkansas State 26

AUBURN, Ala., Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Cameron Newton threw for three touchdowns and rushed for two more Saturday, pacing No. 23 Auburn to a 52-26 victory over Arkansas State.

Newton, formerly a member of the Florida Gators, went 9-for-14 in the passing department and rushed for 171 yards on 15 carries for the Tigers (1-0), who are looking to improve on their 8-5 record of last year.

Michael Dyer ran for 95 yards and a score on 14 carries and Mario Fannin caught four passes for 65 yards and two touchdowns for Auburn.

The Red Wolves (0-1) were led by quarterback Ryan Aplin, who connected on 28-of-42 passes for 278 yards and one touchdown.

Derek Lawson and Jermaine Robertson each scored a rushing touchdown for Arkansas State.
