BOSTON, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- John Danks held the Red Sox to one run over seven innings and the Chicago White Sox downed Boston 3-1 Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader.
Danks (13-9) baffled Boston on six hits, walking three and striking out five to log his first victory since Aug. 11. He entered the game with a 1-4 record and career 5.08 ERA against the Red Sox.
A.J. Pierzynski collected an RBI single and Paul Konerko went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the victors.
The Chisox entered the contest four games behind Minnesota in the American League Central.
Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz (15-6) lasted five innings, surrendering two runs on six hits.
