MLB: San Francisco 5, Colorado 2

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Andres Torres homered to highlight a three-run eighth inning Tuesday and the San Francisco Giants beat Colorado 5-2.

The win, coupled with a San Diego loss to Arizona, allowed the Giants to pull to within four games of the first-place Padres in the National League West.

Torres' home run broke a 2-2 tie and Buster Posey drove in two more runs with a double in the eighth.

Jeremy Affeldt (4-3) got the win in relief of Madison Bumgarner. Brian Wilson picked up his 37th save of the season.

Melvin Mora had a game-tying solo home run in the top of the eighth off of Affeldt. Clint Barnes drove in the only other run for the Rockies, who had won seven of eight coming into Tuesday's contest.

Matt Belisle (6-5) took the loss in relief of Esmil Rogers.

San Francisco took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Rogers balked, sending Freddy Sanchez home from third. Colorado tied the score in the second but the Giants went ahead 2-1 in the fifth on Bumgarner's RBI double.
