HOUSTON, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Wandy Rodriguez allowed only two hits in seven shutout innings Tuesday, staking the Houston Astros to a 3-0 decision over St. Louis.
Rodriguez (11-12) fanned five Cardinals and issued two walks to notch his eighth straight start in which he has allowed no more than one earned run. The Houston lefty tossed 105 pitches, 66 of them for strikes.
Brandon Lyon picked up his 10th save of the year with a scoreless ninth and Hunter Pence knocked in a pair of runs with a fourth-inning triple for the Astros, who took their second straight 3-0 decision from the reeling Cardinals.
Chris Carpenter (14-5) absorbed the tough-luck loss, giving up two earned runs on six hits in seven innings.
St. Louis dropped its fourth straight and fell seven games behind first-place Cincinnati in the National League Central.
