USA tested by Brazil in FIBA victory

ISTANBUL, Turkey, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Kevin Durant poured in 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Monday, pacing the United States' 70-68 win over Brazil at the 2010 FIBA World Championships.

The U.S. team was sorely tested by Brazil after earlier routing Croatia and Slovenia, but managed to improve to 3-0 in preliminary play and remained atop Group B while Brazil fell to 2-1.

Derrick Rose sank a pair of free throws with 3:54 left in the game to put the United States up by four at 68-64. The Americans held the advantage until Brazil's Marcelo Huertas scored with 1:04 to play.

Chauncey Billups answered with a basket and the U.S. team hung on for the win after Leandro Barbosa's shot bounced off the front of the rim as time ran out.
