NEW YORK, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- The New York Rangers signed former Buffalo Sabres forward Tim Kennedy to a contract Monday, the team said.

Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed, multiple reports indicated it was for one year.

Kennedy was awarded a one-year, $1 million deal by an arbitrator during the off-season, but the Sabres bought it out for a reported $333,333 over the next two years, thus freeing him to become an unrestricted free agent.

In his first full year in the NHL last season, Kennedy -- a 24-year-old Buffalo native -- racked up 10 goals and 26 points with 50 penalty minutes in 78 games.
