HOUSTON, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- J.A. Happ hurled a complete-game two-hitter for his second career shutout Monday, a 3-0 blanking of the St. Louis Cardinals by the Houston Astros.
Happ (5-2) mystified the Cards in a 114-pitch gem, yielding only one walk and fanning four en route to his third win in four starts.
The Houston lefty allowed only one runner to get as far as second base, handing the Astros a win in the first of a three-game series at Minute Maid Park.
Brett Wallace went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Carlos Lee also knocked in a run for the victors.
Jake Westbrook (1-3) absorbed the loss for the Redbirds, allowing three runs on nine hits over seven frames.
St. Louis entered the game in second place in the National League Central, five games behind Cincinnati.
