SAN DIEGO, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Joe Blanton and three relievers teamed up on a six-hitter Saturday and the Philadelphia Phillies bounced San Diego 3-1.
Blanton (6-6) limited the Padres to one run on six hits, walking one and striking out three to post his third straight strong start. The Phillies right-hander has yielded only four runs in 20 1/3 innings during the span.
Jose Contreras and Ryan Madson each tossed a scoreless inning and Brad Lidge posted a 1-2-3 ninth to collect his 18th save for the Phillies, who entered the contest two games behind Atlanta in the National League East.
Shane Victorino drove in two of Philadelphia's three runs with RBI hits in the fifth and seventh innings.
Jon Garland (13-9) surrendered three runs on three hits over 6 1/3 innings for the Padres, who dropped their third straight game.
